Besides infrared, other mediums for short-distance wireless telecommunication include radio frequency solutions such as, Bluetooth, Wireless LAN (802.11) and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). Each medium is unique and has its own distinct characteristics.

ZOOP currently works over the infrared technology as a medium for proximity payment using the recently developed Infrared Financial Messaging (IrFM) standard released by the Infrared Data Association (IrDA). Infrared technology provides a very secure, inexpensive, pervasive and low-cost media option.

However, the ZOOP service platform does not require or rely on infrared technology since the primary element of the platform is over-the-air delivery and maintenance of card data. As a result, ZOOP can be used with any transaction media alternatives including RFID, Bluetooth or 802.11. We are committed to provide our partners with a flexible range of media technology support and continually improved services.
